Lake Como, called Lago di Como in Italy, is located in Lombardy and has a length of 51 km and an area of 146 km². This makes it the third largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore.

Discover the many small villages on the shores of Lake Como, which have retained their typical Italian character to this day. Stroll through the beautiful alleys with small boutiques, bars, cafés and restaurants.

In the 15th century, the region came into wealth through silkworm breeding and the silk industry. Many luxurious villas and magnificent buildings date from this time. Some of these villas are now luxury hotels. Feel the flair of past times paired with Italian hospitality, such as the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio, the Vista Palazzo in Como and the Mandarin Oriental in Lago di Como. Another luxury hotel is the Grand Hotel in Tremezzo.

Isola Comacina is the only island in Lake Como and may have been inhabited in ancient times. Lake Como is crossed by the Adda River, which enters the lake at Colico and leaves Lake Como at Lecco.

The main towns are Como, Lecco, Lierne, Varenna, Menaggio and Bellagio. There are also ferry connections across the lake between these towns. The beautiful surroundings and climate not only attract guests from all over the world, but also celebrities such as George Clooney spend their holidays here. The former German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer wrote a large part of his memoirs on his estate in Cadenabbia. Lake Como and its surroundings have also served as a film set on several occasions. The films Star Wars Episode II, Casino Royale and Ocean's 12 were shot here.

The pilgrimage site of Sacro Monte di Ossuccio, which lies on the west side of Lake Como, has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2003. Lake Como has a mild Mediterranean climate and so many subtropical plants such as citrus fruits, palms and cypresses as well as olive trees thrive.

From June to September, the thermal wind (called breva) provides ideal conditions for kite- and windsurfers. The centre for water sports is located between Bellagio and Colico. The surrounding mountains offer hiking and climbing opportunities. Golf courses round off the offer for visitors.
